Dreams vs Reality
You might have a goal in mind; sometimes, everything falls into place and works out as planned or anticipated. Other times, things don't go smoothly, and you might encounter unexpected challenges (lows) or new opportunities (highs) that can present pleasant surprises or crushing disappointment.
When the outcome is better than you hoped for:
You might feel pleasantly surprised.
You might become more ambitious with your goals.
You might feel more confident about your circumstances or abilities.
When an outcome is different from what you hoped for:
You might not feel great about it, but it might be better for you in the long run (e.g., you didn't get the dream job you applied for but got another job you had underestimated and came with a more suitable work-life balance).
When the outcome appears worse than you had hoped for:
You might continue with your actions, but give it more time.
You might make some adjustments and continue to work at it.
You may try something entirely different.
Regardless of the outcome, you've made progress and gained experience. In time, you might find that something you wanted in the past has become attainable but no longer desirable because you have outgrown it or changed your priorities with all you've learned in the time that has passed.
